Hand-Painted
Bouillion Bowl

Fine Porcelain with
Raised Gold Moriage Trim

A lovely decorative sugar bowl, with hand-painted gold floral (rose) rasied decorations (moriage) with elegant leaves and gold trim, on an extremely thin (fine) porcelain body. 3-5/8 inches across the rim, 5-1/8 across the handles. One visible flaw, which looks like a stress fracture. It is faintly visible on both the inside and out (see exaggerated digital photos below; it is not as visible as these photos make it look). Light blue "Hand Painted / Nippon" mark. Beautiful vintage piece of hand-painted porcelain. Has an incredibly delicate, light feel. Price: $7.50

Sugar Bowl
Blue and Pink Flowers
with Gold Trim

Beautiful hand-painted sugar bowl, decorated with pink and blue flowers and green leaves (with a lightly raised Moriage (moriagi) pattern around the petals) and gold trim. 6 inches wide across the handles, 3.5 inches high at the tip of the lid. Very good condition. No chips or crazing. Very light wear to some of the decoration on the lid (photo at right). The gold trim is 80%+ intact. No chips or cracks, and the porcelain is of a very light transluscence. The mark is a green cherry blossom Nippon mark with "Hand Painted." Price: $15

Yellow Rose

Small Coffee Cup

A beautiful small cup with delicate handle, decorated with hand-painted yellow rose, and leaves on front and back. There is a thin tracing of gold trim around the rim and down the handle of this extremely thin piece. 2-3/8 inches high and 2-7/8 inches wide at the rim. Amazingly good (excellent) condition. A bit of wear to the gold trim on the top edge of the handle, but no other flaws that I can find -- no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines, crazing, or utensil marks. Blue rising sun logo, with the marks "Handpainted" and "NIPPON" (see below for closeup). This is one of the most delicate and lovely pieces of Nippon I've come across. I can't believe it's lasted without any damage for so long. Price: $15.00

Hotta Yu Shoten & Co.
Likely 1920s-30s Hand-Painted Dinnerware
1 Bowl, 2 Small Plates, 1 Saucer

A lovely bowl, 2 small plates, and a matching saucer from Hotta Yu Shoten & Co., Japan (Nichi Hon Nippon), likely made in the 1920s-30s (company closed in 1947).

All four pieces are in excellent condition, with no damage or flaws that I can find. The bowl measures 5 inches wide at the rim and 2.75 inches high. The saucer is 5-5/8 inches wide, and the small dessert plates are 6 inches wide. The hand-painted colors are intense and very solid., especially in the borders and flowers.

All four pieces are marked in red with "Hand Painted / Japan," and a cherry blossom logo in the 5-M shape with "H" in the center. The gotheborg.com site on Asian marks dates this as liked from the 1920s-30s. Price: $12.

Wall Pocket
Diving Mallard Duck,
Wonderful Colors and Shape

A beautiful small hand-painted wall pocket marked "Made in Occupied Japan." It is decorated with a richly colored green and golden-brown mallard duck, diving from the sky with blue and white clouds.

This lovely piece is in fair to good condition. The front is solid, very intact, richly colored, and in great condition. The back has a very tight hairline crack, running through the hole for hanging; it has barely begun to be visible on the interior.

This small wall pocket measures about 4.75 inches high, 3 inches long, and 1-1/8 inches deep (at the foot). The foot is stamped "Made in Occupied Japan." Price: $9.00.
