Templo de Debod

One of the places my guidebooks made look really interesting was an area on the western edge of town called "Templo de Debod." It is an Egyptian temple given by the government of Egypt to Spain in thanks for their help with the Aswan Dam project. It was moved to Madrid and reconstructed on a very dramatic site overlooking the park and the royal palace, with tremendous views.

The temple was built in the center of a large reflecting pool. No matter where you looked, you saw stunning reflections.

The elegant Arguelles neighborhood around the temple helped frame what I think is probably my favorite photograph from the entire trip (below).
