Street Scenes

When we left the bright blue doorway of House Mireille, we were confronted by a fascinating color palette. Many house windows have colorful plants, such as our neighbor's cyclamens. The pinks and blues and greens and grays of shutters and doorways made me think I was in southern Italy, rather than France.

The Arena, center of historic Arles

If you walked down our street, past the Arena, and down the hill, you quickly came to the Rhone. The entire embankment throughout Arles was an elevated river walk. There were a few huge ships on the river, but not many. But it was a great place to watch the sun set. (Don't ask about the dog poop....)

All along the river, and throughout the city, was a variety of interesting architectural styles, shapes, designs, and colors. I loved the little votive statues on many corners.
